US-backed political party confirms negotiations with Syrian gov't halted
BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:00 A.M.) - Negotiations between the Syrian government and US-backed Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) have gone sour after several weeks of meetings in Qamishli City and Damascus.
According to the SDC's Spokesperson Amjad 'Othman, the negotiations with Damascus did not stop because of US pressure, but rather the limited path set by the government, which was not enough to achieve any progress.
"Negotiations with Damascus did not stop because of US pressure but the limited path set by the regime which was not enough to achieve any progress. The U.S is an important partner in the fight against terrorism and its role will be significant in the future of any political..." he tweeted yesterday.
"Going to Damascus was an independent decision and we are still open to continue the dialogue with Damascus," he added.
The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF); they operate primarily in northern Syria, including the Al-Raqqa and Al-Hasakah provinces.
