I am a strong fan of this motion that your living and health is determined by the choice your food and drinks. Not just food and drinks, other substances we take into our body can adversely affect our health or be of good benefits to it that's why I believe we should take careful attention what we take into system. Things like alcohol, Cigarettes, marijuana etc have little or no health benefits to us but rather they endanger our overall health especially when used excessively or abused.

Other foods we eat everyday that can further detoriate our health when taken excessively, foods like red meat, fats and food with high cholesterol. This foods may result in unwanted diseases and ailments such as cancer, heart problems, digestive problems etc. Canned and processed foods too when eaten too often and in large quantities can also detoriate our health and put us at the risk of life challenging illnesses.

Most of this diseases can be avoided if we control what we eat and control our eating habits. The rate of obesity have increased in the past few years especially because of the reduction in healthy foods and the increase in unhealthy ones in our diet. In countries like America and most parts of Europe this is a major concern as the obesity level is on steady increase especially in children that their parents find it difficult to control what they eat in school and playgrounds.

Another concerning problem from eating unhealthy is the risk of high sugar level. Children, teenagers even adult in today's world consume sugar more than ever before because of it's availability and it feels good to take not knowing that it is not all that taste good is actually good for our health. Carbonated drinks, cakes, sweets and most foods preserved in sugar has made the risk of diabetes and other accompanying diseases to be on the increase.

In my personal experience when I was a kid I had the problem of high blood sugar. Before I was diagnosed I had the habit eating excessive sugar, I enjoyed eating cake, sweets and I couldn't go a day without licking ice cream during school breaks. In addition I used more than four cubes of sugar in my tea each time I wanted to drink it.

When the doctor diagnosed me with high blood sugar I was scared because I knew little diabetes and how too much sugar in the body can result to that. My parents banned me from eating anything containing too much sugar. I didn't take juice or carbonated drinks to school for launch anymore. My tea was strictly made by my mother to control the amount of sugar used and sometimes my dad didn't let me drink any tea. I took cooked food to school, the school principal made sure nobody sold or gave ice cream to me. It was a difficult period then leaving all what I enjoyed eating but looking back now I'm happy I made those changes.

I now eat healthy and I'm not addicted to sugar like I used to be during my childhood. That change in my diet might have saved me from a lot of health problems that comes with excess sugar in the body system. Today I'm diabetes free, my blood sugar is normal and most importantly I don't have any addiction on any food that is bad to my health.
With all these being said I don't think we should demonize certain foods but instead we should be flexible with our diet. Knowing what should be taken in little quantity and what can be taken in large quantity. Discipline is key when trying to eat healthy so discipline will help us to be flexible on our food choices. Foods like vegetables, fruits etc should be eaten much more than Red meats and food with excessive fats.

I identify with the phrase I prefer to take care of myself and live quality life because what's life without health. You could have all the money in the world but good health is missing then I don't think you're actually living. So I prefer to take good care of my health while alive even though death is inevitable someday. The living should think of living and not just living, living healthy.
