Newari Musical Instrument
Form ascertain period, people were using the instrument to entertain themselves. The human being develops a musical instrument to entertain themselves. People develop and invented different kinds of an instrument according to their views and ideas.
In Nepal, the musical instrument was developed rapidly. The Nepalese people have developed their own ideas so that Nepal is one of the rich countries in cultural heritage and traditional instruments and music.
According to experts in Nepal, about 200 various musical instruments are developed. Some instruments are using in Newari culture. The various musical instruments are played in Newari society on different occasions like religious programs, cultural programs and happy moments like that festival, Jatra, puja, marriage, and death ceremony.
The musical instruments are divided into four categorize.They are below ;
Dhimaya, Dha, Khin, Daha, Damkhin, Maghin, etc instrument is used in skin
Ta, Bhushya, Tai-Nai, etc instruments played by striking two objects.
Violin, Sitar, Piwach, Harmoniyam etc instrument is used for string.
Basuri, Murali, etc instrument played by mouth
Dhimaya is one of the famous musical instrument in Newari culture. It is mostly used in Nawari society. In Nepalese history this instrument invented God Mahadev and it is used since Kirat period. The instrument is mostly used in Newari society by "Jyapu" caste of Kathmandu Valley. This instruments used in different festivals.
This instrument's size is the 40-inch radius and 17-inch Lenght to 51-inch radius and 21-inch Lenght. The wooden part is covered with metal to make it attractive. This instrument along with other instruments like Bhushay, Chushay, and Tai-Nai are also played.
Its main feature is to produce multiple berating echoes.
DHAH
Dhah looks similar to Dhimaya dut is slightly smaller than Dhimaya. Shah is played during Gunla it also termed as "Gunla Bajan". It is constructed from cylindrical hollowed tree trunk slightly smaller than that of Dhimaya. It is also accompanied by Bhusyah, Tai-Nai, and Basuri.
BHUSHYA
Bhushya is size is around 10 to 20- inches. It is mostly played. This instrument is a most important Newari culture
