As the social network organisation tr to address complaints of bullying and abuse on websites, Twitter has published a new version of its rules, which will clarify its policies and how it enforces them.

The changes, Twitter says, reflect the ‘latest trends in online behaviour’. New policies trying to deal with excessive violence, hateful imagery and usernames that are abusive will, however, not be applied util November 22.

On Friday, Twitter shared that it will contact people whose account is suspended, explaining why, look at the context of seemingly abusive tweets before suspension and get in touch with people who are tweeting about potential self-harm and suggest where to go for help.
The announcement also clarifies its attitude to ‘adult content’ and explains that it may be acceptable if the tweet was flagged as ‘sensitive media’.

People are divided on their opinions of Twitter. Some feel more censorship is needed, while others accuse the website of stifling free speech.

In its new rules, the social network says: "We believe in freedom of expression and open dialogue, but that means little as an underlying philosophy if voices are silenced because people are afraid to speak up.
