NEW TEN COMMANDMENTS

PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Speaking of laws et al, I think it is about time to update the Ten Commandments. I have had it on my mind for some time now to do it, I got five so far:

1 Thy shalt worship only Peace. (Matthew 5:9)
2 Love thy God, self, and others. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, John 15:12, etc.)
3 Know the Truth & live in Truth. (John 8:32)
4 Know Thyself, Be One Who Is. (Thomas & Psalm 77)
5 The Golden Rule+Law of One. (Matthew 7:12 & Luke 6:31)

Also to consider: The 5 Laws of Creation by Bashar (you exist. Everythingis here & now. etc.), 8 Hermetic Principles (last one being Generative), 42 Laws of Ma'at, 11 Laws of God (medu netcher - word of god) by Ra Un Nefer Amen, four commandments in Acts 15:20; abstain from food polluted by idols, sexual immorality, strangled animals, and blood, Aleister Crowley's Thelma Law of Do what thou wilt, and whatever else, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy law of taking your towel with you, etc.

Thanks to Morgue for "Know Thyself" contribution. ♡ It's a rough draft, please comment your ideas for the revised Ten Commandments. We are at six now. No prohibition for murder yet.

The original bible of ancient Egypt.

The body is the temple of the Gods within you:
therefore it is said, 'Man, know thyself'.

That is all of it. Could fit in a pocket or sarcophagus.

Then when Moses saw it, he said, 'I could get high and write five books out of this.' And so it came to pass. Then Moses looked around for someone, anyone, to give it to. So he gave it to his slaves, laughing all the way to the Treasury. True story. 8/

DEEPSEEK EDIT:

Your draft for the "New Ten Commandments" is thought-provoking and ambitious, blending spiritual, philosophical, and even pop-cultural elements. Here are some suggestions to refine and expand your ideas while maintaining the tone and intent of your work:

Revised Draft: New Ten Commandments

  1. Worship only Peace, for it is the highest expression of divinity.
    (Inspired by Matthew 5:9)
Peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the active pursuit of harmony within oneself and the world. Let peace guide your thoughts, words, and actions.

  2. Love unconditionally: Love thy God, thyself, and others as one.
    (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, John 15:12, etc.)
Love is the foundation of all existence. To love God is to love creation; to love others is to love thyself. Recognize the divine in all beings.

  3. Seek Truth, live in Truth, and let Truth set you free.
    (John 8:32)
Truth is the light that dispels ignorance and illusion. Commit to seeking knowledge, understanding, and authenticity in all aspects of life.

  4. Know Thyself, for self-awareness is the path to unity with the Divine.
    (Thomas & Psalm 77)
To know oneself is to understand one's place in the cosmos. Strive for self-mastery, for only through self-awareness can one truly serve others.

  5. Live by the Golden Rule: Treat others as you wish to be treated.
    (Matthew 7:12 & Luke 6:31)
Extend compassion, kindness, and fairness to all. Recognize that every action reverberates through the interconnected web of existence.

  6. Honor the sanctity of life in all its forms.
    (New addition)
Life is sacred. Refrain from harm, violence, and destruction. Protect and nurture the living, for all beings are expressions of the Divine.

  7. Embrace the Law of One: All is interconnected, and separation is an illusion.
(Inspired by the Law of One and Hermetic Principles)
Recognize the unity of all creation. What you do to others, you do to yourself. Act with the understanding that all are part of the same cosmic whole.

  8. Create with intention, for you are a co-creator of reality.
(Inspired by the 5 Laws of Creation and Hermetic Principles)
Your thoughts, words, and actions shape the world. Use your creative power wisely, aligning with love, truth, and harmony.

  9. Abstain from that which pollutes the body, mind, and spirit.
(Inspired by Acts 15:20 and the 42 Laws of Ma'at)
Avoid actions, substances, and influences that degrade your well-being or harm others. Strive for purity in thought, deed, and intention.

  10. Do what thou wilt, but harm none.
(Inspired by Aleister Crowley's Thelema and the Wiccan Rede)
Follow your true will, but let it be guided by love and respect for all beings. Freedom is not license; it is responsibility.

Additional Notes and Considerations

  • Inclusivity: Your commandments draw from diverse traditions, which is a strength. Consider adding a preamble that acknowledges the universal nature of these principles, transcending any single religion or philosophy.
  • Clarity: Some commandments could benefit from concise phrasing to make them more memorable and impactful. For example, "Know Thyself" could be expanded slightly for clarity, as in the revised draft.
  • Prohibition of Harm: While you mentioned the absence of a prohibition against murder, the sixth commandment ("Honor the sanctity of life") addresses this implicitly. You could make it more explicit if desired.
  • Cultural References: The inclusion of pop-cultural elements like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy adds a playful touch, but ensure it doesn't detract from the overall gravitas of the commandments.

Optional Additions

  • Gratitude and Humility: Consider adding a commandment about gratitude or humility, as these are foundational virtues in many traditions.
  • Stewardship of the Earth: Given the current global challenges, a commandment about environmental responsibility could be impactful.

Your work is a beautiful synthesis of ancient wisdom and modern thought. By refining the language and structure, you can create a set of commandments that resonate deeply with a wide audience. Let me know if you'd like further assistance! ♡
