**FRIENDSHIP**
He's my best friend, oh! There goes my girlfriend, we are just close friends, guess who is our mutual friend on Facebook? . And so on and on we keep sailing in the ship called friendship. Many having different meanings for it, few value it and many others abuse it. But thats not the point, I think its high time we stopped looking at friendship as the casual 10lettered word which is now so cliché and start looking at it more as a gift. The good thing about this gift is that it could be given to anyone , anywhere, anytime regardless if its boxing day or not.i mean who cares.
The gift of friendship only comes with a ribbon and that ribbon is TRUST. It binds us together to forge ahead. Pardon me to ask, are you ready to tie that ribbon of trust and not let go of your friend even in the worst situation? Just before we leave this sailing ship; friendship, and dive into the ocean of Trust which is a story for another day, grab your binoculars lets peer through the logic of friendship.
You get to pick your gifts right? Because probably they came in bright colours of gift boxes. But no one ever gets to know whats within them (unless I have Clark Kent reading this post). And every bit of the way , you keep unwrapping the gift box taking the pains of tearing its binding and flowery foil to reveal the little secret hidden within. All of a sudden after what seems like 10 minutes of the stress, contrary to your expectation of finding a malibustacy doll, or your favourite Victorias Secret underwear. You stumble upon a rag doll, gross! I know right, you cant even keep it underneath your bed talk more of sleeping next to you. Are you going to throw it away or give it to bingo to rip into shreds. Remember it was a gift from grandpa. This is exactly what friendship is like. Are you going to do away with that friendship regardless of who is involved? Yes we pick our friends, we find a bit of ourselves in them, we enjoy those priceless moments of laughter with them. Then comes the stage of unwrapping, its quite gradual might take months, years or even more , we just keep unwrapping as long as there is something to unwrap till we find their true selves. Like a saying goes "the more you find out about your enemy you begin to love them". So unknown to you that while you had adventures with them, hung out with them, had hang overs with them, painted the day blue with them in their downest moments, shared in their joy you gradually loved them more and in the process stumbled upon their deep buried secrets which happens to be what you can't cope with. The question goes, are you ready to keep that gift?
On the contrary to what you were expecting me to say, if you find that gift not worthy for your keeping you do away with it, don't feed yourself with toxic people. I mean that's not friendship that's toxicship( that's if any such word exists). This doesn't mean you should go around exploiting people or making them get close to you and all of a sudden you go MIA. Always remember karma never goes on holidays. Like in Nigerian pidgin they'll say "at least you suppose get sense".
I'll end by saying "pick your gifts, your gifts shouldn't pick you".
