Bronx Parents Accused Of Keeping Kids In Deplorable Conditions
In the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx, both mother and father have been arraigned on child endangerment charges after police found their 5-year-old son home alone, living in impoverished conditions.
The mother, 48 year old Charlotte Lewis, a nurse at Montefiore Hospital was charged with four counts of failure to exercise control of a minor. She was arrested at the hospital.
Her husband, 59-year-old Wilfred Lewis, is an MTA technician who was also charged with endangering a child and four counts of failure to exercise control of a minor.
As you can see by their professions, they do not fit the poverish statistic. So why would they keep their 5 year old child in such poor conditions ? According to reports, parts of the walls in the apartment were covered with human feces, roaches, and infested with rodents.
According to abc7 Bronx news, A Fed-Ex worker making a delivery to the apartment in the Kingsbridge section on Friday noticed the child by himself.
"FedEx came and dropped off a package and the kid opened the door," said neighbor William Villafane. "When they asked for the parents, he answered that there was nobody."
The deliveryman then went out and hunted down a police officer. The child told police that his parents had not been home since Thursday night.
That's wanton neglect of parental responsibilities. Shame on the parents
My wife and I have been married over 30 years and we were never blessed with children. This pisses me off sooooo much to see this. Kudos to the FedEx guy! Life is not fair in every direction I suppose.
This is not humanity, leaving your kid to suffer like that. Yes by profession these people can take good care of their kids. Glad the authorities delt with it. He kid will be in safe hands now.
Apparently they can't even take care of their apartment! This is so sad.
You would think they have a problem or something, like drug addiction. Their proffessions are good to be caring citizens.
This is unbelievable , how OK n earth will a true parent do something like this. it's a shame on the parent and they needs to be dealt with seriously because their child doesn't deserve such treatment from them

That's so sad. This seems to be happening more and more in America. I guess we can at least be thankful the child was found now rather than in an even worse state.

I can't believe there's parents that could have a heart to leave 5 years old kid by himself. How could they do that, it ironic. What a poor kid :)
