Will the New York Knicks finally be RELEVANT!
It has been 18 years since the Knicks have been in an NBA finals and 44 years since they won an NBA title. That is a long string of disappointment for a top market team. We had great teams in the 90's led by Patrick Ewing but there was that Achilles heel for us in Chicago by the name of Michael Jordan who had his way with us. Now many years and many awful seasons later the Knicks are finally making moves that may make them relevant again.
The starting 5 could be as good as any other staring 5 if they live up to expectations. At center Kristaps Porzingis could be the best player in the league in a few years. When was the last time we saw a center do what he can do both on the inside and outside. The last great all around center was Arvydas Sabonis who could have been one of the greatest players ever if he would have come straight to the NBA. Porzingis is raw and reminds me of when Kevin Garnett first came into the league with that pure raw talent. If he could develop the same as Garnett that would be a god send however, I do believe he will be better. Carmelo Anthony at small forward needs no introduction and his numbers speak for themselve. Now we have finally given him the tools he needs to succeed. The additions to the starting lineup include Derrick Rose former NBA MVP. Yes he has been hurt the last few years but there were flashes of brilliance in some of his games last year. I think he steps it up and gives ue the DRose of the past. also coming over to the Knicks from the Bulls was Joakim Noah. He is scrappy and get the job done. He will be good on the boards and sure up the front line. Lastly is the addition of Brandon Jennings. Jennings a few years ago was one of the best all around guards in the league. I think he gets back to 16 pts 5 ast 3 rbs a game with this supporting cast.
With the NBA east wide open after the Cavs I feel confident going into this season that the Knicks have turned the corner. Unfortunately, we will have to get past another all time great in Lebron who may be our next achilles heel.
