PSYCHOPATHY | Can Psychopathy be Cured? | Octavio Choi | TEDxPortland
Can Neuroscience Help us Eradicate Psychopathy? | Octavio Choi | TEDxPortlandStateUniversity
"Now in contrast.. if you look at the psychopathic brain, there are several brain differences. One is, their amygdala is less active and smaller. So, they truly are less fearful of things in general. Their nucleus accumbens, on the other hand, is overactive, so donuts look super tasty to them. They definitely shouldn't move to Portland." - Dr. Choi
Dr. Choi provides interesting insight into the psychopathic brain. In this talk, he discusses the comparison between psychopathic reaction and thought processes with that of the average brain. Dr. Choi is currently an assistant professor in the public psychiatry division of Oregon Health & Science University. He is also the director of Forensic Evaluation Services at the Oregon State Hospital. He earned his B.S. in computational neuroscience at Stanford University, and later received his PhD in Neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego. He was awarded for his work in molecular developmental mechanisms of the visual system at the Salk Institute. Dr. Choi also completed his psychiatry residency at UCLA-Neuropsychiatric Institute, and his fellowship in forensic psychiatry at University of Pennsylvania.
