                       ♠♦Hello community!♦♠

Today I'm bringing up a review of one of the last Netflix series I watched during quarantine time and by recommendation of others.

Dead to Me is a rare combination of deep, mourning drama along with dark humor, set in a 30-min episode format, which when you see it, it's pretty clear it works better with that modest runtime, it doesn't rely in cheap thrills and overlooked sitcom jokes, in fact most of the jokes are distinguished by the main characters' intimacy, because it is a very intimate story we are drawn to see, a very intimate yet unlikely relationship of two unique women.

Moreover, the runtime has you more glued and prone to keep the binge watching.

'Dead to Me' tells the story of recently widowed Jen Harding (played by Christina Applegate , whom you may know from 'Anchorman', and Kelly Bundy from 'Married with Children' TV-Series) a real state agent, now single mother of two children -who have their own secondary but not-less essentials mother/son drama and attempts to betterness- who's devastated by the accidental death of her husband, and deals with it through a cathartic yet self-indulgent rage that makes her seek for a support group she doesn't believe in. There she meets our second main character: Judy Hale

Judy (played by charming Linda Cardellini, Lindsay from 'Freaks and Geeks' and Velma in live-action Scooby Doo), who's dealing solely with her long-time boyfriend's breakup, but there's much more to it.

They begin with invitations to Jen's place having wine-nights, complementing themselves through their loss connection beautifully, but soon, Jen's in the need to know more about her new friend: her place, her job and her past, and little things begin to unravel from both of their personal lives.

Both women are so compelling and contrasted because of the actresses outstanding portrayal: while Jen is a straight, short-tempered, often hilariously foul-mouthed but sentimentally-genuine character (you can even find compilations on YT of her moods and comedic moments); Judy is a tender, struggling, emotionally sensitive gerontologist and artist who has it very hard to keep truths to herself and can't separate from her ex because of common and half-measures hardships. Christina is perfect in her role, and Linda really shines on par.

We have touching and emotional moments, we have suspenseful moments, we have around-the-corner tragedies and a molotov cocktail of humor, sometimes even a youthful and transgressive sense of comedy, for two women in their 40s who have their standards apparently set and known. Glad to know they are not, making them even so much funnier to watch.

The lighted and candid photography comes in handy at creating an atmosphere of total control in Jen's apparently steady suburban life, and the hopes Judy keeps to mend her life right throughout the series, you really fall for her, and understand them both, there are somehow predictable twists specially in second season, such as unexpected twin brothers and a weird faux post-mortem romance.

Everybody's sinking in this Netflix light-hearted friendship tale, creator Liz Feldman penned each of the twenty episodes we have so far, getting an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series of 2019, it's like a really good and concise book you can finish reading in one or two days and puts you in a lot of thrills and moods. On my top list of most-enjoyable series, quarantined or not.

Excellent post @marcyastral20!! And it's great that you could share it in Twitter!

I started watching this series and for some reason I didn't continue it, you have convinced me to watch it. It is true that it is a mixture of drama and black humor. I really liked your review.
