3 Reasons to Just Get Started

in #neoxian5 years ago

I know, especially when I don't want to get started on something, I'm the king of coming up with excuses not to do it. I'm not good at it, who will want to read what I write, I'm a terrible writer. I just think most people assume successful people are just naturally gifted at what they do and don't have to spend years mastering their craft and failing or coming up short multiple times.

Get Started!

Practice Makes Perfect

After I read the book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell I realized that most if not all successful people are that way because they've spent the time "mastering their craft". Bill Gates spent many hours working on coding, The Beatles spent hours playing live shows, Michael Jordan spent meant hours practicing Basketball way before they ever became famous.

Most of the time we don't see the hours they put in because it happens before they are famous. It's not until they become famous that it appears their success has happened overnight and hasn't come from years of practicing their craft to get to the point where they are the best at what they do.

"Expert"

I know when I first starting writing this blog I had no idea what to write about and it would take me hours to come up with a 4 or 5 paragraph post. I'm still not a master author by any means, but once I come up with an idea to write about I feel I do a decent job at creating a post for others to read and engage on.

You're Always Your Greatest Critic

To this day I still don't understand why people read or upvote my posts. I feel like I'm terrible at taking my thoughts and translating them onto paper, but after 3 years I've found that I have more support than ever, and feel like as more people join and or rejoin the platform the engagement will follow.

Am I the worst author in the world probably not and I feel like I do create at least some value, but in almost 3 years of blogging I can't recall a single person that has stopped by and said this is stupid, your writing is terrible, I can't believe you forgot to put a period at the end of that sentence!

Professional critic

At the end of the day, writing is something that helps me relax and something I enjoy. I don't have to create something that is perfect and mistake-free as long as it's honest and from the heart, I feel like people enjoy reading and commenting. I'm still trying to get over this hurdle and start making some videos, but encourage you to leave a comment down below, what's something you've been procrastinating and are either still procrastinating, or you've actually started working on it recently?

You Can't Predict Who Will Enjoy Your Content

If you think you're the only fan of underwater basket weaving until you share your experiences how do you know for sure? People are very unique in many ways, but how we experience life, and trials that we all go through in one way or another. You also never know who else enjoys underwater basket weaving until you share it online.

I know I talk about Rudy from Alpha Investments quite a bit, but he talks about how he got his start in much the same way. He had a passion that his family got tired of listening to him talk about, Magic the Gathering, so his family encouraged him to start making YouTube videos so he could talk about his passion with strangers on the internet.

Judge Free Zone

Fast forward a few years later and is, in my opinion, a pretty successful YouTuber. I even enjoy reading about the most random things as well, because even though I myself might not enjoy it, I love watching or reading things that people share that they are passionate about.
