Needlework Monday - Making a cactus for storing needles and pins

in #needleworkmonday6 years ago

Hi, Steemit!!!

I thought to myself: how is this future seamstress without needle cases!?))) I decided to show you my work today. Now my needles will live on a cactus.)))

Materials:

  • Ball of foam;
  • Egg shape from foam;
  • Fabric green;
  • Sharp blade for the knife;
  • Pen and ruler;
  • Ceramic pot;
  • Styrofoam;
  • Pebbles for decor;
  • Flower for decoration;
  • Skewers.

  • Шар из пенопласта;
  • Форма яйца из пенопласта;
  • Ткань зеленого цвета;
  • Острое лезвие для ножа;
  • Ручка и линейка;
  • Керамический горшочек;
  • Пенопласт;
  • Камушки для декора;
  • Цветочек для декора;

On the ball and the egg, I measured their volume and divided them into equal parts by sector. That is, the ball I got 7 cm one sector, and in the egg 4 cm sector. Marked all pen.

I take the blade and cut it, approximately 1 cm inward, along the marked lines.

Now I cut the fabric to the size of the sector. I will show you on the example of a small foam that I did. And doing the same thing with a big ball.

I attach a piece of fabric to one of the sectors.

And with a blade I push the fabric into the cuts.

So it should work out.

And so doing with all sectors.

Separate parts of the cactus are ready. But, in order to bond together, she inserted a small skewer into a small part of the cactus. Notice, since this is the shape of the egg, it is in its narrow part.

And pierced the big ball. The photo is clear.
Also on the big ball I stuck two skewers at the bottom. This is to fix it in the pot.

I found a ceramic pot in my room. Pasted inside the foam. And then fixed the cactus.

In order to hide the foam, I fell asleep on top of various stones.

And also pasted a flower on the cactus.

And now you can settle your needles.))) But I don’t have many, but nothing, I’ll fix everything soon.)))

Thank you all for your support and attention! Successes !!!

Hello @garnet1! Welcome to #NeedleWorkMonday! Every Monday we get together to share our work, tips, patterns, ideas and inspirations as we support one another! On Monday’s we use the #needleworkmonday tag and on all other days we use the #needlework tag without the word Monday attached.

Your cactus pin cushion is sooo cute and such a good idea! I like that it’s bigger than the average cushion and can store way more pins! I would have never guessed you used foam balls and just tucked the material in between the the cuts! I really thought sewing was involved. So clever! I love the look of it and how it sits on top of the rocks in the pot. I also love the flower you stuck on that matches the flower on the pot. All of these details make it even cuter!

I hope you get around to mingling and meeting the other needkeworkers! We encourage supporting one another because it helps us to keep doing what we do...sharing our work and inspiring the Steemit blockchain!

Thanks for sharing this week! It’s great to have you! 😃

Many thanks for the praise @crosheille. I am very pleased! I really love manual work and always support those people who love to create with their own hands.

Great tutorial! And the cactus to hold needles is such a fun idea! It IS a lot less prickly and likely to hurt you than a real cactus but still totally perfect!

Thank you very much @jamethiel ! I'm glad you liked the cactus. Perhaps this idea will be useful to you.

Wow! This is amazing! I love it! 😍

Thank you very much! I am very pleased!:)

This is soo adorable 👍

Thank you very much! :)

I have one from my grandma that's falling apart. It's a tomato stuffed with some kind of stuff that's almost like sand, but slightly larger granuals. It may be some kind of saw dust. It's got a tag that's long since worn off, so I guess she bought it some time before I was even born. I've patched it up a bit where the fabric has torn with stitches. Might need to eventually put actual little patches on it if I don't wanna throw it out.

@geekpowered Also an interesting idea with a tomato. And the fact that you were able to repair it is very good.

This is a brailliant handmade and very nice Cactus.

Thanks for the praise @mmunited ! I am very pleased when others like my work.
