Needlework Monday - Decor cup polymer clay. 18 friendly cats. Handmade from @elenka

in #needleworkmonday5 years ago

Hi, Steemit!!!

Greetings dear readers!

I continue to share my experience in decorating cups with polymer clay.
I really like this kind of creativity in that you can create unique, inimitable images and embody ideas using a variety of modeling techniques.

Inspired by the mug with cats from the master Anastasia Astafieva @handmadeblog, I really wanted to create something like this with my own hands. As the title of the article says: "There are never too many cats!" And so it happened - I made three such cups, on each of which a team of 18 cats was neatly placed.

Tools and materials:

  • polymer clay of different colors
  • ceramic cup
  • work surface (glass, tile or sheet of paper)
  • needle
  • scalpel, blade
  • dots and modeling stacks
  • black and white acrylic paint
  • thin brush
  • epoxy adhesive

First outlines are outlined - I start making cats from the top of the cup. For this, I used layers of polymer clay of different colors. The layers should be the same thickness. I cut it mainly with a scalpel and applied it to each other like pieces of a puzzle. Then I smoothed out the irregularities and pressed tightly so that all the parts stuck together and became one whole layer.

Next, I created the image and facial expressions of each cat character. Each of them has its own emotion - joy, thoughtfulness, seriousness, sadness, love and so on. I decided that the color of the nose will be the unifying element, for all cats it is pink. I rolled up many balls of white polymer clay for the eyes, then added black pupils.

Using a large needle, I painted cats smiles, indentations in the ears, eyebrows and drew contours. A needle is a very convenient tool for creating textures and indentations in the surface of polymer clay.

I painted all the lines and recesses with black acrylic paint. I painted glare in the pupils and small details with white acrylic. At this stage, cats really come to life and you can see how the work as a whole looks.

The next step is baking in the oven. After cooling, the polymer clay is carefully separated from the cup and the composition is adhered to epoxy glue. It is convenient to spread glue for several products at once, it is easier to calculate the proportion.

After the glue has set, the product can be varnished and used for its intended purpose.

A cup with polymer clay decor can be a wonderful, uplifting gift. Especially if there are 18 charismatic cats on it :)

Thank you for attention!

I wish you all success and great mood !!!

Thank you!!! :)))

The faces!!!!! The cats expressions are so wonderful and varied. I think I can imagine exactly the different personalities of these cats. I am amazed how precise you worked with the polimer clay, I remember it to be not very pliable. And your idea to glue it on the mugs is so clever. Love it 😍

Thank you for such kind words, @neumannsalva !!! I am very glad that you appreciated the idea with facial expressions of cats. Working with it was very interesting and exciting. Glad you liked my work!
