Happy #NeedleWorkMonday, a weekly holiday for needle artists! 😄 Well at least that’s what it feels like. Us needle enthusiasts get to meetup and share our passion with many others from around the world. I sure look forward to it every week! I have learned so much and have been so inspired by everyone sharing their works and ideas!

Today I will continue with the step by step tutorial of the string quilt given to me by my mom. She has been generous to take process photos along the way so that I can share with you all. I will leave links to the previous posts at the bottom for your reference.

Let’s begin...

In the last session we left off with cutting our strips even and then pressing them open...

Take the outside block and with right sides together put it on top of the block next to it and pin. Then, sew the strip that is on one block to the other block edge without the strip. Before you stitch make sure the lace and strip match up.

After all the strips are stitched together and pressed your quilt should look like this...

Next, cut out a long 1" strip then pin it to the middle of one of the halves of your quilt. It is better to have it too long then just right for the edges of the quilt.

Now stitch the strip to the edges of the middle of the quilt all the way across in a 1/4" seam. Press the strip after it’s stitched.

Yay! I’m excited to keep going and sharing with you how this turns out. My mother is really having fun putting this sample quilt together. When it’s finished she will be giving it to my niece. I look forward to showing you the material she will be using for the official string quilt. It is so beautiful!

Thanks for tuning in for another tutorial round. I’ll be sharing more as she sends the steps to me. I’ll most likely be switching off from week to week to share some of what I’ve been working on as well ;D

I can feel Christmas is coming!! :) Love how how it is coming together ❤️
At this point, I can imagine it gets harder to sew with the batting behind and the pieces coming together to be a big piece. Probably needs some maneuvering with the sewing machine?
Ooo I am excited with the Project Warn A Soul! Am thinking what to make and who to give them to. Hope I find ideas soon!

Thank you! Yes she is really working these pieces and having fun doing so. Yes it definitely takes some maneuvering of the machine.

I know I’m getting excited too! I’ll be starting on something soon, not quite sure yet what I’ll be making to give away either.

I love the warm colors and the stripe design. With more tiles it feels for me as if the stripes are creating a kind of optical illusion and the pattern seems to have depth (although it is two-dimensional) It is lovely to see all the steps and the work which goes into such an artwork.

Yes I can see that too! Thank you for following along and commenting. I really appreciate the compliments on my mother’s work :)

❤️

Great to see an update on the progress of this

Thanks so much for reading :)
