Quilted Place Mats for Nana - Needlework Monday

I have had this project in my head for a while now and I finally got it started and at least halfway finished. Every Christmas before we moved to Panama, my parents would give us matching Christmas pajamas and they usually came with flannel pants. What is one to do with 20+ pair of flannel pants in a tropical environment? Read below to find out!

I have been wanting to do something with all of our flannel pants for a while now, but I finally found the time to get something done. I would like to make a quilt, but I just don't have the time. I decided on something a little smaller - quilted place mats!

These turned out to be almost as much work as putting together an entire quilt would have been, but I love how they turned out. I was hoping to finish 12, but I ended up with 6 at the moment. Maybe I can finish the other six before Christmas!

Nana is coming to visit tomorrow for about a month and we will get to celebrate her birthday and Mother's Day while she is here. These place mats will be one of those gifts. I know that she will love them and appreciate the time that was put into making them.

I cut one leg off of each pair of pants and pulled out the seams. Then I started cutting them up into different shapes based on what I was planning to do for each of the place mats. I tried to make each one 12"x18", but some of them ended up being a little smaller or a little larger!

The backs

I cut up a fleece blanket and put it in the middle as the batting. The backs are all different Christmas fabrics that I had my mom bring in January when they came to visit. Which one is your favorite?

I am probably done with all projects until baby girl arrives! Thankfully my due date is about a week away, but I figure she will come a little late! We will have to wait and see!

Wonderful the way you found new purpose for all that cozy flannel.

Thanks! I still have a ton of it left. Maybe I will make a huge lap quilt some day...just not today. ;) I should have found and included a pic of all of us in our Christmas pjs. Would have required much digging though.

Great way to use the PJs! The mats are all very cute. As for the backing material, both the green and the red with candy canes below it would be fun!

Clever way to use up those flannels! I love the different designs you did. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I really like the patches! Your mom is gonna love them all ;D

Hmmm now that you mentioned it, do you think the baby bunting will be too hot for your baby to wear in the environment that you’re in? If so I can think of something else to send you. Let me know ~

I'm not sure what a baby bunting is... :) Our normal temps year round are about mid-70s for a high. It gets into the lower 60s at night. My due date is tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure this baby isn't going to make her presence known to the world this week... Hopefully soon! @crosheille

It’s this full covering over the baby...almost like a potato sack but cuter! 😂

The material is lighter than it looks, it’s really lightweight..

Im going to add the zipper soon. I was supposed to do so ages ago but so much has been coming up and we haven’t been able to meet with my mom for sewing class. If you think this will be too hot for your weather (unless she wears it in the evenings) I can do something different. 😊😉

Has she come yet?!!! 😃

She arrived on May 16! I need to do a post!! That looks great for sleeping and super cute! :)

Awwww yay!! I had a feeling she was here!! Congratulations mama!!! 🎀🎉

Okay awesome I’ll finish it and send your way!! 😃
