Who are the people/groups I most fear becoming "Nazis?"

The people/groups who most forcefully refuse to admit, "I have it in me to become a Nazi."

We like to get heated and throw around buzzwords like Nazi (or insert any unqualified catch-all evil designation here) to describe our enemies or political opponents. Not only are such comparisons almost never applicable, they're cheap and belittle tragic historical realities. Worse, it's a tendency that misses the lesson we should have learned from all of history's "Nazis."

The challenge isn't to identify evil in others. That's easy.

The challenge is to remain vigilant of ourselves.

Because the lesson of history's "Nazis" isn't that people didn't recognize their evil. Plenty of folks did.

The lesson of history's many "Nazis" is that they didn't recognize that evil blossoming in themselves. They were so eager to identify evil in others that they overlooked it within.

When true forces of evil materialize, humanity won't need your help to recognize it. It won't need you to point a finger and say "there are Nazis."

Instead, the best way we can serve humanity is to admit that WE could be history's next "Nazis" and make sure not to let it happen.

Because looking for evil in others has always been the most expedient way to dismiss it in ourselves.
