Making New fruit Trees

Some scion wood cuttings from my anna and golden dorset apple trees I took this winter. scion wood is used to graft onto a rootstock to make a new fruit tree. All fruit trees that you buy from a nursery are created this way. It's done this way to ensure the new tree has excellent fruiting genetics and the rootstock is selected for vigorous growth and disease prevention. Fruit trees are rarely started from seed because the genetics would be totoally uncertain and often would end up with bad fruit/growth. In the spring I'll be grafting these scion cuttings to M111 rootstock. I'll be bringing these and more to trade at the San Diego rare Fruit growers scion exchange. Can't wait to see what goodies everyone will bring :)
