The fauna present in Anzoátegui is as varied as its landscapes. A great diversity of fish such as sardines, horse mackerel, snapper and seabream, among others, have been the traditional sustenance of the inhabitants. In the coral reefs, colorful species delight the visitor. Dolphin herds in the Mochima park area accompany ferries and small boats, the more rare are the small herring whales that are occasionally seen near the coasts. Seabirds such as the gannets, the bobas and the colorful chaparos feed on the rich waters of Mochima.

In this region, in addition to the mangroves, tropical dry forest and thorny shrubs predominate. In the savannas and tables of the center of the state, lives a fauna traditionally associated with the western plains such as cachicamos, deer, rabbits, snakes, iguanas and matos. The Serranía del Turimiquire, on the eastern boundary of Anzoátegui, is home to a wide variety of mammals and birds that take refuge in its dense evergreen and montane forests, among which are Lapa, Anteater and Cuspon or giant cachicamo. Among the most important forest resources we have the olive, the araguaney, the ceiba, the cereipo or tree of smell (emblematic tree of the state), the cují and the vera.
