The Mighty Oak

 You mature gradually and ever so majestically,
Raising your mighty boughs toward the sun:
Reaching for Heaven and never faltering,
Blossoming with enormous pride and strength.
Elements of time seem to set you back,
You surrender to the world,
Trusting Heaven to pull you through.
Persevering, always holding your limbs upward.
You behold the changes as others peer silently away.
Yet, you never surrender.
Leaves turn from green to gold,
Then simply disappear.
You disarmingly extend your arms toward the Almighty.
Decades will pass as you live your silent existence.
Yet, you continue to give to the land and people.
Man could be taught from your quiet, strong nature.
Comparing himself to your strength and determination.
Your unwavering praise to Heaven,
Your sense to withstand change,
To always feel the sun on his face and fight for life.
To know to reach toward God and believe.
Generations will change around him.
Will he surrender to the world or stand tall?
Will he outstretch his arms to God,
Trusting Heaven, to pull him through?
