As always I apologize for my English and I use a translator to write, I hope that through you.
In the western sector of the Canaima National Park, there is the Auyantepuy, one of the most well-known tepuis. (The tepuis are those flat mountains that end with huge vertical walls.) From that tepuy is born the Angel Falls, with its 979 meters of freefall, the highest in the world.
There are two ways to see the Angel Falls. One of them is from the air, in a plane and the other is in a trip that leaves from the port Ucaima in Canaima, and that lasts more than 3 hours navigating by the river Carrao and later by Churún. From the Churún River, to the viewpoint of Angel Falls, you should walk about an hour through the jungle.
El Salto Ángel and his name
The Angel Falls is named after the man who discovered it in 1937, American adventurer and aviator Jimmy Angel. However, the natives of the area, the Pemones, already knew it previously and had baptized it as Churún Merú.
Excursions near the Angel Falls
Another place from where you can appreciate the Angel Falls and the Auyantepuy in all its beauty, is from the Mouse Island.
