Early summer blooms of Ontario
Here's a few pictures from our recent nature hike. Take a look and enjoy.
Lonicera Japonica, a common introduced species. You can find this shrub in most forests and it is known for its beautiful blossoms. The berries come later in the fall and are inedible.
Black cherry, a common forest tree in Ontario which shows its many white flowers on a long stem.
Colorado blue spruce, showing its pollen cones. The needles and new growth are bright green, bursting out in the summer and increasing the stature of the tree.
Lastly, a reminder for all nature enthusiasts to watch out for Poison Ivy this summer! You can identify it by its irregularly lobed, sometimes smooth leaves that are distinctly grouped in three and somewhat shiny. Make sure to avoid contact with this plant as it is often abundant in the southern Ontario region.
