Plastic is Not Fantastic-Solutions To Stop The Pollution
It is unbelievable to think that there is more plastic in the World's oceans than on the land but that is the harsh reality of the situation. Large numbers of marine life are at risk due to this ongoing problem.
If future generations are going to enjoy the same privileges as we did with our oceans then we have to all start taking responsibilities for our actions, and with an estimated 14 billion pounds of trash being added to the ocean this year alone the situation is now beyond critical.
It takes around 400 million years for a plastic bottle to break down so its not an issue that is just going to vanish away with time either. Yet the same energy required to make one plastic bottle could recycle ten plastic bottles!
Government intervention is slow going, although the looming ban on plastic straws in some Countries is clearly a step in the right direction. Yet relying on the government is not nearly enough, each and every one of us has both a personal and moral responsibility to clean up our oceans. So what can we do in our own lives?
Firstly we have to be the change we want to see in the World, and it can start with small actions every day. For example, rejecting plastic straws in bars and restaurants, or when you go into a convenience store rejecting a plastic bag. Take your own bags that aren't plastic.
Be committed to recycling, in most Countries now there is normally a system set up to be able to do this. It may take 15-20 minutes out of your time but by being the ripple in the pond you're leading by example.
Every now and then go to the local park or beach near where you live and pick up some plastic. There are now groups in many Countries that actually organise trash cleanups on beaches for a few hours. This can actually be quite fun, you get a chance to connect with like-minded people, and you get the buzz of feeling like you're contributing. If there is no trash clubs around then maybe you could even start one yourself?
The bottom line is we all have the power to make a positive change in our World, and if everyone made the small changes required then we could turn this problem around. Love your oceans and love your mama.

If there are receptacles that are accessible to me, I like to pick up trash on my morning walks. Thanks for sharing! Much love!
You're welcome.
Plastic is a huge issue. The straw crisis a just the tip of the ice burg. I hate how some companies who are abolishing their straws are having to make new lids for cups. to only further the problem making a cup that has more plastic than a straw and previous lid. This makes their image look more eco friendly but they are not helping at all. Thank you for sharing this.
Yes I have never thought about it like that!
Another case of man destroying our planet.
One day we might learn!
I doubt we are going to change unless we have a gun to our heads, and very likely when it is long past too late. It is looking like in both natural resources and minerals from geology, we are already on our final doubling, so not long to go..
Yeah I tend to agree although we can't stop trying!
