Grizzly bears being a Grizzly bear
This grizzly we encountered in Mussel Inlet whilst we were exploring the Great Bear Rainforest. I got up at about 5am to start preparing the zodiacs and getting ready to start the morning expedition to shore to look for bears. It was all about 10 mins on shore when all of a sudden a young grizzly wandered out of the brush and came into few along the shoreline, no doubt in search of some breakfast.
Typically, the younger, smaller bears, along with mothers and their cubs will be found around the mouth of the river during the salmon run, where as, the larger adult male bears will be further up river, which is considered to be better foraging grounds for salmon. Hence, this young guy was up and at them early in the morning and foraging around the mouth of the inlet. I have to admit it is not a bad way to start the day...
