The ice art of Antarctica
I personally never tire of taking photos or simply being around the various forms of ice down on the Antarctic Peninsula. I say it constantly whilst I am down here zodiac cruising in numerous areas along the peninsula, Mother Nature is quite the artist. In some places that we visit whilst down here we come across what is known as Iceberg graveyards, which are large open and shallow areas were large bergs get grounded in the shallows and then slowly break down and degrade over time. These bergs are typically the best random formations you will ever see with no two icebergs ever looking the same.
This day we were lucky enough to see so many icebergs in various stages of decay, as the elements slowly deteriorated them right before our eyes. At times you are even lucky enough to see various of them calf or roll around due to their instability and rate of degradation. I must say that I simply love being in a small zodiac vessel and cruising around these regions with such beautiful ice sculptures.
