Extinction risk to Madagascar's unique lemur

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s research is showing that the vast majority of lemur species are on the edge of extinction. According to the report, 95% of Earth's lemur population is threatened. 105 of 111 lemur species and subspecies under threat.

IUCN produce red list of threatened species-Lemur. 20 species are vulnerable, 49 species are endangered and 24 species are critically endangered. Extinction of risk to Madagascar's unique lemur is indicative of the grave threat to Madagascar biodiversity. Destruction of tropical forest habitat, from slash-and-burn agriculture, illegal logging and charcoal production are major threats. The hunting of lemurs for food and pet trade have been documented as serious threats.

It is one of the largest living lemurs(6 to 9.5 kg)

There was extinct giant lemur was the largest primate known to have evolved on Madagascar, almost the size of a gorilla named as Archaeoindris.
