Bull Tule Elk, San Joaquin County, California - June 17, 2019

Wow stumbled upon a small herd of Tule Elk last night. Probably 25-30 elk including 4 young calves still with spots. Out on a dusk snake cruise with my youngest son. He is really enthusiastic about snakes still so its good father/son time. We found 5 northern pacific rattle snakes, 2 king snakes and a gopher snake last night. We cruise looking for snakes then stop, take pictures and move snakes off the road.

Life is good. Youngest son is home for summer. He is spending time outdoors, doing off season workouts and will probably get a job to save some money for school soon. My older son is nearby in San Francisco working a great summer intern job. He has an apartment but comes home most weekends. I'm staying busy with work and Steemmonsters mostly.

Steem On! Hope all is well with my Steemit friends.

Sort:

Nice pic... its fur is the same color as the grass, good camouflage.

Thanks @herldius Good to see you are keeping the cars and street art coming :) the 1967 Jaguar Pirana by Bertone reminds me of the AMC Javelin.

Good to see you back...

Great picture! Glad to hear all is well and that the boys are doing good. So good to hear from you!

Hey @melinda010100. Great to see you still so active on Steemit :) I checked out your recent posts. Pella, Iowa was a regular stop on the drive from Minneapolis to Kansas City for our family. The Clyde Connection runs deep lol

It most certainly does run deep! I do love Steem, more now than ever.

25-30 elk .....

How big do the herds get ?

Nice shot as always !

I bet your excited about your son being back home.

Nice to have the boys home. As you get older, you start to realize they will soon have homes and lives of their own. And visit less often. Its what you want for them but its hard too.

I think herds get bigger on some of the nature reserves. This herd is on mostly private land and one of the smaller ones. The Tule Elk is only in California and was almost extinct. Now there are several thousand mostly on public lands where they have been re-introduced.

I agree, the circle of life is interesting. Its the small things that we take for granted that we end up missing the most.

That's an interesting tidbit of info about the Tule Elk, thanks for sharing it.
