The fractal broccoli: universal lessons from a vegetable
Understanding fractals helps us better understand the world and the Romanesco broccoli stands alone in its design with an unmistakeable fractal formation.
I noticed one in the shops recently and marvelled at its beauty for a moment while I took these shots.
Layers within layers within layers. Personally I find it mesmerising to look at.
Originating in Italy this cruciferous vegetable enjoys colder weather which is why they are currently available here in the South of France.
What can be learned from fractals?
Nature creates with them and the Universe itself may be a giant fractal endlessly repeating itself.
Every particular in nature, a leaf, a drop, a crystal, a moment of time is related to the whole, and partakes of the perfection of the whole. Each particle is a microcosm, and faithfully renders the likeness of the world. Ralph Waldo Emerson
Without fractals Pixar wouldn't exist! Or at least, they wouldn't be able to create graphics which so much resemble our real world.
If we look at this fern we can see how there is a recurring design being repeated over and over in ever smaller dimensions.
The same can be said of many things such as snowflakes, shells, lightning & trees all of which have the ability to display clearly the repeated pattern.
Then there are the less obvious things such as mountains which also display the pattern, evident when observed using computers.
Fractals permit a system of information storage in which one small piece tells the story of the whole.
It is in this way that a single cell can repeat itself over and over to make a whole body.
Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better Albert Einstein
Fractals in crypto
Very often when we are looking at the growth of a coin we can see how the 30min candles are showing a similar pattern to the 1day candles.
Even something as inorganic as a digital cryptocurrency grows using the same system as nature for it is born forth from us humans, and we are inextricably connected to the magical mathematics behind fractals.
Decentralised systems
It is clearly demonstrated in nature that the decentralised system is more adept at survival.
If our body consisted of a single cell it would be easy to kill. As a collection of cells, each one with the information which relates to the whole, we are not so easy to kill and our body has the ability to heal itself.
Final thoughts
Curious that humans have largely ignored the lessons gifted us by the fractal design of nature.
The world has been built on endless centralised systems, making it vulnerable to countless problems... until now.
The age of decentralisation is upon us and finally the lessons contained within the fractal innards of a simple romanesco broccoli are being applied to the whole.

Wow, i love the shape of Romanesco broccoli. But its taste is closer to cauliflower that i also like, but this veg is not available in Hungary.
The whole Universe is a fractal, no doubt. As above, so bellow, as Hermes Trismegistos (Thoth) said.
Yay! You found me quickly without me having to tell you.
Have to admit I've not actually tasted the Romanesco broccoli, but I am going to now. Love raw cauliflower.
And love your fractal awesomeness ;)
excellent post thank you! I first faild in university because of maths and had to repeat the first year only because of this 1 subject xD
Suddenly I discovered fractals and it gave me a whole new view of nature and our world. And most importantly fractals opened my mind for maths as well. Still it was close but hey now I have the diploma and nobody cares for marks anymore :)
The important thing is that you find enjoyment in it. I have never had too much fun with maths personally, though as an artist/photographer I am conscious how much mathematics is embedded within my aesthetically pleasing images. It is the same reason fractals are pleasing to look at. The perfection of mathematics :)
Welcome to Steemit!
That's a very interesting point of view. Especially the one-cell body example.
Never thought of decentralization as so important for the well- being of the whole. Most likely, because I live in a VERY centralized country.
We can all see it's not the best way for a country to be organized, but we never experienced an alternative.
It will probably change in a decade, though. Something to look forward to.
Will remember this idea for sure, @samstonehill!
That is exactly right. We never experienced an alternative because it wasn't presented to us as an option.
I always think about solar power as a great example. If all of us put solar on our roofs the energy industry would become decentralised. But they don't want that, so instead the energy industry have bought all the solar companies to keep the focus of attention on solar farms (which feed the energy back into the grid) rather than creating it exactly where it is needed, in the home.
The single cell example is very fitting with this because if a power station goes down, millions of homes would be without electricity. But in the decentralised solar situation, one house going down doesn't affect the neighbours.
I love that kind of broccoli. I have been using that broccoli image as my masthead ever since I signed up for SteemIt. :D
Excellent! I see that. There is something pretty magical about it hey ;)

Hey there! Thanks very much for the vote & resteem. I like what you are doing there with @steemiteducation and will check it out on discord.
I came across this subject sometimes ago but I never really digged on it and you just inspired me to do so. Fractals so show many meanings which we can relate to the universe
It's a big subject. Fractal cosmology very interesting too ;)
Yes fractal cosmology!! ;)
Thanks a lot sir for your support. It means a lot
wow I like broccoli romanesco, I really want to try it, because I am very curious about the taste, this nature provides so much that can be utilized, can you help me @samstonehill
I understand it tastes like cauliflower though I have not yet tasted it myself!
yes friends if ad time visit my blog, and I please upvote resteem
