Louisiana's coastal ridges are vanishing; this college's grant might help save them

Now Nicholls State University in Thibodaux will receive almost $500,000 to study the role that low, wooded ridges play in helping to hold together the fragile coast.

Interesting article about the natural ridges that were once so common in South Louisiana, but sadly are disappearing at an alarming rate. Natural had it right when it was allowed to run wild and free, sadly those days are long gone. The Mississippi River has been leveed up to the point that nature is not allowed to rebuild the ridges. Maybe with more fresh water diversions the River can more go back to the way it was a hundred years ago. The good news is that a grant like this is cheap in todays money, so if any good comes out of it, it will be well worth it. And I know from personal experience that Nicholls Sate is a top notch school. Let's see what happens.....

It seems to me that Louisiana doesn't get the attention that it deserves nature wise

It really doesn't, they need a new marketing person, lol
