Romsdalseggen – Norway from one of its most beautiful sides.

This last summer, in between our 6-month journey, Nina had a little break to do some work in Trondheim. It is not easy to get extra off from work in the summertime, especially not as a nurse. Anyway, during those weeks I had to work, I managed to do an amazing hiking trip together with a friend to Romsdalseggen.

Romsdalseggen is a mountain ridge in the middle of one of the most stunning mountain areas of Norway and is by many considered to be the most beautiful hike in Norway. The ridge is located in the heart of Romsdalen, surrounded by a dramatic landscape. The trip, with it’s 10,3 kilometers and 1216 meters above sea level, usually takes 5-8 hours to walk and is considered to be a demanding trip.

The path up to the ridge was varied, from open and plain woodlands, steep climbs and narrow paths. Some parts of the path might be quite a challenge to walk, especially for people with fear of hights. In the steepest climbs and in the most airy areas of the ridge you can find ropes to hold on to while passing. Fortunately I don’t have a significant fear of hights, but I could definitely feel the adrenaline going through my body. Parts of the trip was really quite demanding, but the higher we got the more spectacular the view became.

The view at the top can hardly be described, but only experienced. Magnificent mountains and peaks, waterfalls, crystal clear fjords and lush valleys. Here is the view of the river of Rauma that flows through Romsdalen. In the other direction there was unfortunately some fog, which made it difficult to make a decent photo.

In the steepest parts of the path down, Sherpas have done a good job carving out stairs of stone. This made the walk a lot more comfortable. At the end the path was not modified anymore. We chose to get off track and extended the trip a little bit.

Really quite an experience with memories for life - recommended!
