Red Wattlebird (Three Photos)
This is the loud and raucous Red Wattlebird Anthochaera carunculata. It is named from the red wattles (fleshy lobes) on the birds neck. They are one of the largest honeyeaters in Australia, the Yellow wattlebird in Tasmania being the largest. It feeds primarily on nectar and also eats insects. I photographed these near Albury, New South Wales, when I was up on the mainland earlier this month.

Lovely bird with kind of a mean look. Like his yellow belly :)
Thanks. The Tasmanian Wattlebird has more yellow and also longer wattles but I have never managed a good shot of one.
Such great shots of it, it truly is such a beautiful bird

Thanks very much. Is it the colour of the eyes that you find scary?

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
You have a lot of awesome bird shots. How close do you typically get to them and what kind of lens are you using?
