ALONE IN THE WILDERNESS

Richard Proenneke is responsible for one my first memorable moments as a child , where I stopped and said to myself "That's the life I want". Sitting back watching one of his documentaries on pbs for the first time , I found myself lured in by the elegance in his narration of a simple life , "ALONE IN THE WILDERNESS !" . He captured the true essence of thriving comfortably among the wild with minimal supplies , and was also able to provide and record valuable meteorological and natural data , living in twin lakes Alaska.

MY JOURNEY

Inspired from then on in my life , I found myself attracted to learning that kind of enjoyment, to live off the land, working with my bare hands to create a self sustaining environment, completely independent from a civilization where people find themselves victim to dependency of a government , or others. Beginning from the rich fertile lands of Kentucky , just a few miles from the famous Fort Boonesborough , I grew up running around 90 acres of tobacco farm land my uncle owned , that we often visited ,where you pumped water , fed the cows, and if you had to use the bathroom you used the outhouse....Defiantly learned the basics, from hunting, to farming. All the way to and old ghost gold mining town named Sylvanite, that burnt down somewhere in the 1940's, located in the furthest north western corner of Montana, running up a small stretch along the Yaak river valley, with rivers still to this day littered with gold , and overrun with a dense population of various wildlife. 117fe5c039b84780b31ea51bf080bb04--ghost-towns-montana.jpg

I ran a bar named "The Golden Nugget" next to the old gold silver mining operation , which is how the town received it's name "Sylvanite" derived from the term of a gold silver mix within the veins of a mine. Chopping wood, hunting deer , and elk, and even learning basic fly fishing techniques from the locals to try and snag those trout that swam Montanas beautiful pristine rivers. Truly a piece of heaven on earth anyone would want experience.

Reflecting

Through all my experiences looking back on my life , I think back to watching that first documentary when "Dick" Proenneke captured my imagination of a simple life, that seems to be disconnected from the daily drama ,that keeps the world wrapped up so much , that they never get to enjoy the simpler things, and for that reason , I feel the need to share with the world ,one of the most influential men that truly sets the stage of and old way of living, that can truly inspire and individual to ground themselves , and find for themselves a piece of mind , away from all the modern distractions.

The fields of Fort Boonesborough look very similar to the farm fields of Michigan, it's really awesome to see how much different geography Kentucky has to offer. I am currently hanging out on a mountain.
Excellent post.

Thank you brother ! Hope your enjoying every minute of those Appalachian mountains in eastern Kentucky , there so many trails to great sites from caves , to cliffs , an breath taking water falls .
