A lone tree in Zambia

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

Standing all alone in the grass.

In contrast to all the other trees that grow thickly together.

or even more densely packed together.

These are examples of the perpetual struggle between grassland and bush in the African savanna's. Bush crouds out the grass and prevents it from growing in its shade. Where grass is thick wild fires wipe out small trees and only the largest ones survive.

So when grass is aloud to accumulate the fires will be hotter and eliminate all the smaller trees, then only single scattered large trees will remain. When fires are scarce or the grass is overgrazed the trees will begin to reclaim their territory and so the pendulum sways over the centuries between grassland and savanna woodland.

Wow, that is interesting to know! Very true when you think about the competition of plant life in HOT areas prone to wild fires. Thank you for sharing!!

Awesome, we learn a lot from natute

Amazing story.
So, according to the trees configuration (and the number of trees),
it is seen who was winner in which piece of land.
It will be so long,
until is human hand" does not interfere" in the story.

Teaching us regarding the survival of the fittest

Its quite an interesting natural phenomena where each population fights for their survival and hinders the growth of the other.

Most people concertrate on animals to explain this. Its good to know it happens in the higher plant world too

As always, informative.
