What is Kratom?
Kratom also known as Mitragyna speciosa is a member of the coffee family native to the Southeast Asian and Indonesian area. The tree's leafs have had an amazing impact on hundreds of thousands of people around the world due to its analgesic, pain relieving properties in addition with its ability to alleviate depression and anxiety while providing an overall mood lift and feelings of euphoria.
Many people have reported having success with Kratom after finding little relief with traditional opiates. The Kratom leaf is typically powdered and is consumed by being brewed into a tea or simply quickly washed down with a glass of OJ to mask the flavor. The alkaloids within the powdered leaves are what give Kratom its pain relieving and mood uplifting effects. Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine byeing the two most important alkoloids as they stimulate the mu-opioid receptor.
Because Kratom stimulates the mu-opioid receptor it is effective at reducing withdrawal symptoms in people who have been using stronger pain killers. It can and is also used as a maintenance treatment as it curves all desire to go back to the previous opiate of abuse, and being as it's a tea, the trade off seems worthwhile.
While the benefits to help reform addicts is amazing, many people use it for its stimulant effects in low doses, or it's sedating effects at night to help them fall asleep. It's a wonderful plant and hopefully continues to help humanity for generations to come.
