The gigantic buffalo or giant suweg, Amorphophallus titanum Becc., Is a plant of the endemic tribal (Araceae) tribe of Sumatra, Indonesia, known as the largest flowering plant in the world, although the records state that its relative, A gigas (also endemic from Sumatra) can produce flowers as high as 5m. [1] Kibut is also called a carcass flower due to the flowers that smell like a rotting carcass, which is intended to invite the beetle and fly to pollinate the flowers.
Kibut is often interchangeable with the gigantic patriarch Rafflesia arnoldii. Probably because these two types of plants both have giant flowers, and they both emit an unpleasant odor. Amorphophallus species can also be found in tropical rainforest at the Tropical Forest Research Station (SPHT) Kayan Mentarang National Park in Lalut Birai, Long Alango Village, Bahau Hulu District, Malinau District.
