What is biopiracy?
Biopiracy is a practice that consists of the withdrawal of animal and plant species from their habitat and their insertion in other places, in general, with financial intention, every year, biopiracy robs Brazil of various natural resources and has already caused enormous damages to our country.
In certain situations, biopiracy occurs when species of fauna and flora of a region are exploited by people not belonging to the traditional people of the area most of the time this type of exploitation is for therapeutic purposes. One of the main problems with Biopiracy is that the knowledge generated by traditional peoples has accumulated over thousands of years and thus is part of the patrimony of these peoples and could not be exploited in their absence.
But a biopiracy is not resumed to the trafficking of species for the exploitation of their properties, as for example the configuration for the sale of species for ornamentation of animals or items for pets in the case of the animals. The case of animals can not turn into 10 billion years, most of the animals being removed from their habitats before reaching their destination.
In addition, many species are introduced in places where they do not exist naturally, causing imbalance in the environment and destruction of other native species that were there before. See the article: Exotic species in Brazil and the evils that such errors cause nature.
