Giuseppe said the bears fought for about three to four minutes, between the lake and the low river
No love was lost between this ferocious pair caught fighting for an unrivalled place at one of the biggest salmon breeding grounds in Europe.
Giuseppe said: 'I went to this remote and very isolated region to photograph the bears, there are a lot of animals in those places because they are rich in salmon.

'The two bears were at the mouth of a river that flows into the Kurile Lake fishing when suddenly began to struggle.

'They fought for about three to four minutes, between the lake and the low river. They stopped fighting suddenly and turned away without further activity.'

Grizzly spectacle: The bears' fight was watched by other local wildlife, including seagulls (pictured)

Giuseppe said: 'On this trip I witnessed other skirmishes between bears and many other interesting scenes that have always involved protagonists - bears, salmon and even the seagulls!'

The bears fought tooth and claw over the fish, as Giuseppe's amazing photographs reveal

The bears were fairly evenly matched size-wise and by the end of their tussle, there was no clear winner
Giuseppe, from L'Aquila in Abruzzo, Italy, is a business director by trade and travels to the most remote corners of the world to photograph wildlife and traditional populations.

Giuseppe added: 'On this trip I witnessed other skirmishes between bears and many other interesting scenes that have always involved protagonists - bears, salmon and even the seagulls!

'Overall it was a very nice and interesting experience, although very tiring and challenging because of its remoteness and cold wet weather.'

Other fascinating photographs have emerged that show a bear who struggles so much to catch fish that she just gives up and lays down on a rock in the river.

The bear was snapped at Katmai National Park, Alaska, making dozens of failed attempts to grab some salmon.

At one point she almost snaffles a tasty treat, only to see it slip away back into the water
