African Black Kite & Bush fires ( My personal experience)

One lovely morning as I was coming back from an adventure trip to Ezeama waterfalls ( Ezeama-Water Gods Alter) source of the ancient Urashi river see post here to take some photos for my steemit blog post, I witnessed an interesting event.

Although dangerous, I am always fascinated about wild fires especially when they are ravaging uncontrollable in the Harmatan dry cold winds like the ones I'm sharing in this post.

As this was happening, suddenly there appeared huge black kites flying so high and low, diving into the fire and back up again. This fascinated me so much so that I took some close photos of them with my Ipad.

Although not very clear because of the hazy harmatan weather, but this is the best shot i could get due to the bright hot sun and glowing wild fire coupled with black ash.

What fascinates me most is how these huge Kites ( Egbe in my local dialect) gets immediately attracted to smokes & bush fire. Well, I later found out that once there is bush fire, the birds goes out to hunt for small animals running out to safety!

Interestingly, according to a 2016 publication in Daily Mail Uk Captioned, "Australia's birds of prey are starting bushfires DELIBERATELY" The articles highlights that;

Birds of prey are suspected of deliberately starting fires to capture fleeing animals in the Australian Bush.

It further explains that...

No other animal apart from man has been recorded as starting a fire deliberately.
At least two birds of prey - black kites and the brown falcon - swoop on burning twigs and embers and carry them to unburnt parts of the bush where they are thought to deliberately start bushfires, according to witnesses.

This goes to show that there are some mysterious bush fires that may be caused by these smart hunters of the skies.
