Today
It is a good year for tomatoes, I tell you. Not too warm, many rains, not too much manna. I’m no expert, I’m just a good observer 😉. I’ve visited my mom today. After she retired, she moved in my grandparents’ house, at the country; I come here as often as I can. The village is only 2 driving hours away from Bucharest in south of Romania. Besides the joy of seeing each other, I enjoy helping her also in the vegetables garden. This is where I’ve taken these pictures:
They say tomatoes are fruits, no vegetables. I couldn’t care less but it might as well be true as long as I eat them as separate dish or in the evening as low fat calories desert.
Thank God I’ve spent much time, as a child, at the country. I have a special relationship with the nature, vegetables, rain, wind or change of season.
The cucumbers are at their second generation. From the first one there are left the dried vines and the pickles. Now are flowering again, same yellow, new crop. The peppers have turned all red, the peaches are just blushing. This year we have two kinds of zucchini: one – light green when it’s young and yellow when it raises, another one – dark green all the time.
The summer’s almost gone; the green is slightly fading; the leaves are starting to pale and twist. And the cat is eating like there is no tomorrow😁 I must admit I love autumn with its naked trees, rustiness and lower temperatures.
The birds are not the ones who woke me up in the morning, just dog’s barking. After that, silence again. I’ve had my coffee outside, listening to that silence. Well, until the ducks have heard me.

It looks like your garden is doing very well, indeed! The tomatoes look delicious. I see you have a furry friend defending them from the mice...
The cucumbers look very nice, too. I've never been a fan of eating them, but they sure are photogenic!
My father has been growing tomatoes in straw bales, a new-ish technical gardening method, and they're also doing well. The guy I rent from also tried straw bale tomatoes, but the plants shriveled up and died.
I had to google straw bale gardening, I must admit I haven't heard about it until now. You can use straw bales to build houses too. I'm glad to hear your dad's garden is doing well. I'm big fan of tomatoes and cucumbers - more like eating them than photographing :)
Nope, no gardening! It rained too much after a summer that was too hot and too dry. I had 2 tomato plants in my small garden. They dried out and didn't flower and therefore no tomatoes at all!!
But nice to see how all these vegetables grow; love to see such images!
I'm sorry to hear about that, I guess that this year the hot dry summers from south of Romania have moved to The Netherlands. I could have send you some vegetables if you weren't that far :)
Oh, I would really appreciate that; all the vegetables look great. But I agree: the distance is too far!
