Goat Haunt Waterton Canada

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

As part of our trip to Glacier National Park, we ventured into Canada to Waterton Lakes National Park. A large portion of the park burned last year, but it is slowly getting back to normal. The Waterton township is home to the historic Prince of Wales Hotel, which we visited. We then took a boat tour to Goat Haunt.20140904_150824.jpg

This is the view of the lake from inside of the hotel looking toward Goat Haunt.

We caught the boat in Waterton township to head for Goat Haunt, which is back in the United States . Thus, this trip requires that you bring your passport!

There were other tour boats out, and there was usually lots of waving and also each boat trying to leave a wake for the other.

The views along the way were gorgeous. There are is a difficult hike to Crypt Lake that can be done by taking the boat part way and getting picked up again on the last boat. We did not attempt it, but I would like to do that hike someday.

This is the US/Canada border! They keep it clear cut.

And now the Goat Haunt dock is in view.

Entrance is limited.

This is the Customs office. I don't recall it taking very long to check in.

There are multiple hikes that can be taken from the area. We only had an hour or two, so we took a short hike to a pretty little lake.

There were a couple of footbridges such as this one.

The lake itself was charming. There were people camping there with backpacks and fishing.

This is back at the Goat Haunt dock, waiting to board the boat.

Although the area is named Goat Haunt, we saw no goats there, other than the one on the boat logo.

Waterton was a lovely smaller park and a nice companion side trip from Glacier National. Unfortunately, much of it remains closed from the fire of last year. But the Goat Haunt area I believe was unaffected by the fire.

I'm taking off this week to run 100 miles in Texas, so my writing this week might mostly be about that. But when I get back, I plan to start a series on my trip to Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada.

All photos are my original works.

We haven't done the Goat Haunt boat trip yet, hope to do it someday. I loved exploring Waterton when we visited it many years ago.

It was a nice boat ride. I really want to do Crypt Lake. It looks pretty scary though!!!

I've never looked into Crypt, will check it out as somewhere my out of shape self won't be going but can dream about!
