Puffer fish use geometric designs as their mating calls

I came across this video on youtube. It's pretty impressive to witness a seemingly simple creature accomplish something that even the most intelligent animals would struggle with. Can anyone explain how a puffer fish does this so accurately without being able to see the entire project?
