Austria vs. Canada: the major differences between the two countries

in #nature7 years ago

After half a year in the new world i would love to give a feedback, so you guys can get a picture of what are the major differences between my homeland and the new word. So lets start eh ;)

-the food:
Canadian food is like most of north american food - industrial food.
for an austrian who is used to high quality meat, cheese, milk and beer, the food really sucks.
Sorry canadians, nothing personal, but it seems like most of the canadians lost track where their food comes from.
Especially cheese... you know, cheese doesn´t grows in blocks like Kraft tells you, and mozarella and gauda don´t have the same form, or the same consinstence or the color :D
I don´t know why they call it cheese but I can tell you one thing, "that ain´t cheese, eh"

-the water quality:
canada is the place with the most fresh water in the word.
so why do you have to mix your perfectly fine fresh water with chloride?
I have harvested all of my drinking water from the rivers and lakes, because the water from the sink tastes and smells like pool water, especially in toronto.

-the landscape:
This one is a bit unfair, because austria would fit into canada at least a hundred times.
But i have to say canada is beautiful, and it is vast. There is everything, from flatland, to mountains, and what i loved the most: the untouched nature.
100 kilometres north from the US there is nothing but nature in its pure beauty.
The perfect country to get old alone in the woods - if you can handle the winter ;)
Although, austria got a very beautiful landscape as well, but simply not the size.

-the mentality:
The canadian mentality is like the worldwide cliche tells you- they are super friendly- and that is awesome :D
So many friendly people, it is super easy to get a ride, and if you need help, someone is always willing to help if they find you in trouble. Sure there are some assholes, but they are everywhere, aren´t they?
That is something you cannot expect in austria.
There are very friendly here too, but far more ignorant farmerboy idiots and aggressive arabs than in canada.
Coutrieside is far more friendly than the cities.
If you want to meet nice people, just go to the mountaintops, and stay out of the cities :)

-the accepted drugs:
canadian laws seem to be a bit weird, at least the alcohol laws.
You are only allowed to drink at home, or in restaurants, but not outside.
If police catches you with a beer in your hand, you´re screwed.
But if they see you with a joint or a bong, everything is alright.
It is the opposite in austria, you can drink everywhere, and get liquor in every store, but if you smoke weed, you get busted.

To put it in a nutshell:
Which country is better,
canada or austria? None.
They are very different, but still they are both very awesome and beautiful places, for me, both have the right of existence and both are perfectly imperfect in their own way.
But because I love good food and good beer,
if i would have to choose, I would stay in austria :)
Thank for reading, eh
