Although Some Dwarf Willows grow just a few centemetres high, trees are generally the largest of all plants. Indeed the giant redwood tree is the biggest of all living things. Trees can grow big because they don't have soft, green 'herbaceous' stem like other plants; they have stiff, brown, woody stems, covered in protection bark,that can grow tall and support an enormous weight of leaves. With most trees there is a single thick central stem the tunk and leaves and side branches only grow some way off the ground so they are well out of the reach of most browsing animals.
