The relief supplies worth Rs 23.4 from the Government of Japan to the flood survivors in southern plain of Nepal have arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday.Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Masashi Ogawa handed over emergency relief goods to the Home Minister Janardan Sharma amid a ceremony held at the Humanitarian Staging Area at the Tribhuvan International Airport today, it said in a statement.
In the statement today, the Japanese Diplomatic mission said the first shipment of emergency relief goods, 3000 blankets, 100 plastic sheets, 2,000 sleeping pads, 100 tents and 10 water tanks have arrived in respnse to the damage caused by flood in Nepal.

Highlights
• Initial Rapid Assessments (IRA) have been completed in 24 districts.
• A total of 1.7 million people are reported to be affected, of whom nearly 461,000 people (91,400 families) have been displaced from their homes.
• Communities in Rautahat, Banke, Bardiya, Mahottari, Dhanusa and Saptari districts remain inaccessible by road.
• Biratnagar airport is now operational during daylight hours.
• As reported on 18th August, the Government of Nepal has welcomed assistance from friendly governments, organisations and interested individuals.
The second shipment of relief goods is scheduled to arrive tonight and other air transportation of goods will continue after that, reads the statement.
“The Japanese Government and Japanese citizens have not forgotten the friendship and compassion given to Japan during the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011 and in the Kumamoto Earthquake in April last year by the government and peoples of Nepal,” stated in the statement.
Ambassador Ogawa extended his heartfelt sympathy to the victims of unfortunate natural disasters and hoped that the relief materials would be dispatched promptly to improve lives of flood survivors.
