Nature #10: Marine life stuck in plastic waste
Human waste thrown into the sea like spoons, straws, pens, cans, plastic bottles can harm up to 600 species of organisms. By 2050, marine plastics waste will be more than fish.
Sea birds are strung with ropes. This is an image that Greenpeace's team of researchers studied on the effects of waste on seabirds on Garbh Eilean Island. The island of Scotland, uninhabited, attracts crowds of tourists and scientists. Photo: Will Rose / Greenpeace.
In many other places, the team also saw similar images. Sea birds eat garbage because the algae on the trash produces the same crustacean taste they like to eat. Experts predict that about 99% of local seabirds will have plastic debris in their stomach by 2050. Photo: Kajdsa Sjelander / Greenpeace.
Waste is thrown into the sea by the waves, drifting to islands across Scotland, seriously affecting the natural habitat of marine species. Waste has entered the shark's live area, appearing in the nest of many seabirds, and even in seagrass and whale habitats. Photo: Will Rose / Greenpeace.
Tisha Brown, a member of Greenpeace UK, said the sites were flooded with plastic bottles and other garbage. It is no longer the beach, the habitat of many wildlife in the sense anymore. "We need to act urgently, acting government and beverage companies, where every year produce billions of plastic bottles, to prevent more and more plastic bottles from drifting into the sea." Plastic is very dangerous to wildlife, because toxic chemicals will cause the creature to ingest them intoxicated. Large objects will also be trapped in the animal's throat, or damage the stomach, occupying a position in the stomach that makes them hungry, will slowly deplete and die. The team found bottles, packages, cans and plastic on 30 beaches and islands in Scotland. They had to rescue a seagull on Trollnish when it was stuck in the garbage. Earlier, a whale was stranded off the coast of Skye Island (Scoland) was found to have more than 40 plastic waste, including a trash can in its stomach. Photo: Kajdsa Sj? Lander / Greenpeace.

great post! In Brazil we constantly fight these types of problems. Unfortunately, people or society in general doesn't always do what they are supposed to do with their trash and always choose the conveniences without a second thought if they will be hurting the fauna or even another person. :(
Following you! I am a beginner in Steemit, and I do photography posts as well, so any constructive criticism would be welcome! :)

It is so crucial that we engrave in our kids head the importance of recycling and using as many natural products as possible. We completely messed up the planet and now we need to urgently break this vicious circle to give the next generations some opportunity to still enjoy nature and our planet in general...
