The Lakota have similar guidelines around menstruation and ceremony. If a woman attending suddenly has her menses, she is still considered to be part of the ceremony, even though she (and anyone else) is in a separate section.
The Lakota honour menstruation, and the male and female medicine-keepers/shamen are always completely upfront about the fact that they cannot handle the energy that comes into the space with menstruation.
