An investigation on one of the oceanic parts that increased the temperature increase has allowed to know the reduction of the surface of the Arctic waters, which could soon become part of the Atlantic Ocean.

Sigrid Lind, from the Marine Research Institute of Tromso (Norway), has detailed that in the northern Barents Sea - "the focus of Arctic warming" - the temperature increase deepened since 2000.

The problem worsened because, in addition to that circumstance, the Atlantic Ocean began to gain ground and transform the characteristics of the waters, Nature reported.

Before, in the north of the Barents Sea there was floating ice that, when melted, kept the cold water on the surface and contributed to the warmer, originating in the Atlantic, remaining below.

When the amount of frozen mass decreased, the Atlantic water gained ground, heated the sea and gave it more salinity. This resulted in a drastic modification of the oceanic structure and caused the ice on the surface to have "almost completely" disappeared

Lind has concluded that "the region is rapidly changing to an Atlantic climate" whereby, "unless the freshwater inflow is recovered", it could end up with a "warm water" structure that would make it "part of the Atlantic domain ", whereby diverse inhabitants of the Arctic could be forced to migrate northwards.
