I gave up shampoo nearly two years ago and have tried lots of things for washing, but never clay, so it was interesting to read your post. Where did you get the clay from?
My favourite for a long time was rye flour. I used it pretty much the way that you describe using the clay, making a paste and rubbing it in, but I never left it in for so long. It seemed to work by sucking up the grease in my hair :D It was a bit tricky to wash out and I often had bits of flour left over, so I have since switched to using baking soda and lemon juice. When I transitioned to no poo, baking soda seemed too harsh for my hair, but now it seems fine, and I live in an area with hard water, so it's good for removing the lime deposit build-up in my hair!
I have to say the lemon juice is the best conditioner I have ever found for my hair. I have very flyaway hair, but lemon juice makes it shiny and smooth. Vinegar just wasn't the same. I noticed that you said you leave the lemon juice in? I always wash mine out but maybe I'll try leaving it...
Nice to see another no-pooer posting on Steemit :)
Hey,
Oh awesome to meet another no-pooer here!
I used baking soda for a very long time but my hair seems to not like it anymore :) I have used rye flour only as a dry shampoo and I didn’t like it much because, I don’t know why, but I couldn’t manage to shake it out properly. It always looked as if I had dandruff (is that the actual word for Schuppen 🤔 just realized I never wrote that word in English and it looks quite wrong to me but well...).
So clay is just wonderful!!! My hair has never felt and looked better! I can totally recommend that to you.
When I used baking soda I used to put some lemon juice on my hair afterwards and wash it out with cold water. Now I just let it in. It smells great and I haven’t noticed any bad impact for now.
Oh and... the clay... I believe I bought it on Amazon.
Cheers
Haha, yes dandruff is the correct word. I know the feeling when a word in another language seems totally weird.
I've read that hair - and what kind of washing treatment works best - changes when you're pregnant and breastfeeding. Did you find that? Not that I'm thinking of getting pregnant any time soon but always good to know these things :D
Yeah Sometimes I am looking up words (most of the time I know them but couldn’t think of them at the moment). But sometimes I realize I have never read or written that word ever before 😂
Oh yes my hair has changed a thousand times during and after pregnancy.
I used to have very thick hair. And always greasy. During pregnancy it was still greasy but the tips were dry af and I just didn’t know what to do. After pregnancy I lost a whole bunch of hair. Same thing happened the second time 3 years later when I was pregnant again. So it is kind of a curse I guess!!
But clay seems to work perfect for me.
