the danger of tiny ideas vs. bounded rationality

“we humans, facing limits of knowledge, and things we do not observe, the unseen and the unknown, resolve the tension by squeezing life and the world into tiny ideas” - Nassim Taleb

Bounded Rationality (or when anyone says that something is "logical", run the other way)

Understanding bounded rationality, where beliefs are less important to penetrate than actions. Beliefs exist for many reasons, often undecipherable upon external observation. Take for instance getting across a gorge. There is a rope bridge directly across, or a series of walled concrete bridges at lengthy angles. Logically taking the rope bridge will get you across faster, but due to its flimsy nature one could fall through. If you say it’s "rational" or "logical" to take the rope bridge, you are missing the evolutionary rationality. Things are only rational within certain contexts, certain bounds, which are largely misunderstood, ignored, or people talking across assumptions creating sound and fury.

There is no "rational" or "logical" truth, everything is embedded in context. the chaos of the world cannot be explained via platitudes of ideologues, but only come close to being explained through a textured and nuanced description allowing for education and flexibility of thought. Unfortunately we are nowhere rather near that.
