Happy Thors-day
Did you know that many days of the week are named after Norse gods?
Today is Thursday or to a Viking/Norse it’s called Thors-day in honor of their powerful god, Thor.
Thor is the hammer wielding Norse god of Thunder.. He is represented either walking or riding a chariot across the skies, drawn by goats. The sound of thunder follows him as he speeds across the heavens waving the mighty hammer.
Why he uses goats instead of horses has many guesses. One is because Thor is god of the common people, a goat would be the animal a farmer could get along without the easiest.
Of all the animals to hitch to a wagon..err chariot, I would think a goat would be the most difficult to control. They are as stubborn as a mule.
Hubs had a great idea of why goats were used.
I was talking with Hubs about Thor being pictured using the goats to haul his chariot and he thought it was because goats are rugged and could climb the mountains where the gods resided.
Thor with his fierce eyes, red hair and full red beard is the son of Odin and thought to be the protector of mankind. Besides known for the hammer and great strength, Thor is associated with the thunder, lightning and oak trees.

Besides the days of the week, it is surprising at the Norse/Viking words used in our vocabulary. Without them the English language would have less colorful words. To name a few, berserk, die, muck, skull, and knife. Ugly comes from their word uggligr.
Our word cake comes from the Old Norse kaka ~ the Vikings used the word to describe a little cake.
Color Challenge for Thursday is green. Green comes from the Old Norse grœnn.
Photo taken in my sideyard in summer.
Nature magically paints the landscape with all shades of the healing green.
Thors-day is the day when magic works the best.
Have a magical day my friends!

Thanks @voiceofthwhrlwnd. Appreciate the U&R. 😊
I can't imagine using goats to pull a chariot either! For one thing, you would never get them to go in the same direction! Maybe if you dangled your prize rose bush in front of them...
Haha @goat-girlz. I was thinking of you and your goats when I was putting the post together. You would know how stubborn they can be. 😊
Thanks @fajar.perangin79 for the U&R. Appreciated!
