Mythological Mysteries Episode 2

As I have already introduced the series in my previous Mythological Mysteries post, I am skipping straight to talking about the Myths. For this post, I am going to talk about Greek and Roman Myths. Since most of the Greek and Roman myths start with the gods, so will I. there are tons of Greek and Roman gods, but there is a very specific hierarchy, with the 12 Olympians on top.

At the top of the 12 Olympians are the “big Three” who are Zeus, Poseidon and Hades i.e. Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto. Then most of the other Olympians are descended from Zeus, some of which include Athena, Artimis, and Apollo. Each of the gods have their own symbol of power; Zeus has his lightning bolt, Poseidon has his trident, and Hades has his helm of darkness

(the other gods have them, but I would be droning on forever to cover then all). As for actually being active on the earth, pretty much all the gods did was have babies. Those children came to be known as ‘demigods’ or ‘half-bloods’. Once they had their own brood of demigods, the gods would send their children on quests to achieve or retrieve something or another. Take Perseus, son of Zeus, for example. He was sent to kill Medusa, who was a monster that turned anything that looked at her to stone. Or the Argonauts. They were multiple demigods sent to get the golden Fleece, a sheep’s fleece that could heal any malady and basically fix any problems, to the point of making people young again.

There were many other accounts of the gods wing demigods as their tools. Some interesting facts/myths on how the gods influenced the Greek and Roman way of life include how Poseidon and Athena created the chariot for transportation and how Apollo taught the mortals in the art of medicine, so that they could take care of themselves better without the constant need for the help of the gods. Some of the greatest Greek and Roman legends include stories of the Greek hunters of Artimis and the Roman Amazonian Empire. The hunter of Artimis were a group of maiden hunters who followed Artimis on the hunt for monsters that had escaped from Tartarus (there is Hades, Hall and then Tartarus). The Amazons were a group of serious feminists who killed a lot of men and led a revolution. Nasty business. Of course, they have absolutely nothing to do with the modern-day Amazon company. Nothing at all. These are some of the most interesting and fascinating facts that I found out about Greek and Roman myths.
